What Is SSIC Code?
An SSIC code is a number used by ACRA to show what your business does, like selling products, offering services, or running a cafe. It’s based on global standards but tailored for Singapore.

Common Mistakes to Avoid
Choosing the wrong SSIC code can lead to delays, missed approvals, or even problems getting licenses. Many business owners rush through this step or pick a code that sounds close.

Too generic code

Pick code just for grants

Ignore secondary activity
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Can I have more than one code?
Yes, but only up to two. That’s because ACRA only lets you list two activities when registering a company. If you’re doing more than two things, choose the main two revenue-generating activities.
2. Can I change the SSIC code later?
Absolutely. If your business focus shifts or ACRA updates its code list, you can apply to change your SSIC code through Bizfile+ or your company secretary.
3. What does “n.e.c.” mean in an SSIC description?
“Not elsewhere classified” – used when there’s no other code that fits better.
4. How long does it take to register with an SSIC code?
Some codes need approval from other government bodies, which can take 2–8 weeks.
5. Can picking the wrong code cause problems?
Yes, it could delay setup, prevent licenses, disqualify you from grants, and require resubmission.
