Our Mission
The Scottish Business Association of Singapore exists to promote and advance commercial interaction between businesses and business
professionals located, or interested, in Singapore who enjoy an economic, educational, social or historical relationship with Scotland.
Why was the Scottish Business Association of Singapore formed?
There are 7-8,000 Scots living and working in Singapore just now. There are 23 GlobalScots in the Region, almost all of the Scottish universities have a presence here, approximately 40 Scottish companies have their own operations in Singapore and over 200 Scottish companies are involved in joint ventures here. There are also a growing number of Scottish business people who want to come out to Singapore. In addition there are over 20 Singaporean companies who have invested in businesses in Scotland and over 5000 Singaporeans are alumni of Scottish Universities. All of these individuals/corporates have the "Scottish" connection and can assist each other and companies new to market with their Singaporean business interests.
What does the Scottish Business Association of Singapore hope to achieve?
The Scottish Business Association's objectives are:-
a) to facilitate, on an informal basis, the meeting, discussing and exchanging of ideas and information by individuals and businesses, with an identifiable Scottish interest, in Singapore;
b) to represent, express and give effect to the views arising out of (a) above if those views are believed to affect the economic interests of the Scottish community in Singapore; and
c) to promote the development of commerce (including the potential to support local Singaporean charities) and cultural exchange between Scotland and Singapore.
To achieve these objectives we have set short and long term goals, which are:-
Short term:
- Establish a credible and professional business networking Association that all concerned can see medium to long term benefits in.
- Provide positive impact upon Scottish interests, promote the Scottish brand and build connections for Scottish companies and Scottish business people in Singapore.
- To benefit everyone with a Scottish interest through positive enhancement of the Scottish experience and any association with it.
- Deliver 4 gatherings (breakfast, roundtables, luncheons, etc) in year 1 that achieve all of the above.
- Establish medium to long term key performance indictaors that will help achieve the above.
Long term:
- Representing Scotland and its business interests in Singapore, benefitting both Singapore and Scotland.
- Lobbying on behalf of Scottish businesses.
- Sourcing and positioning opportunities to combine the innovation of Scotland and the mercantilism of Singapore.
- Having a positive impact on business, commercial and educational connectivity.
- Using the Association to enhance the international Scottish brand.
- Using the Association to enhance the Scottish identity in Singapore and beyond.
- Enhancing, clarifying, illuminating and explaining the Asian perception of Scotland and Scotland's perception of Asia: Helping to position the Scottish brand in Asia.
- To begin to network all Scottish business groups within the ASEAN region.
How will the Scottish Business Association of Singapore achieve these objectives?
- Bringing together, through our online presence, events and the Association's network those individuals and corporates who are interested on building on their Scottish interests, for business reasons.
- Our events will include roundtables/ luncheons/breakfasts.
- Investor & Trade delegations.
